Medicare is a federal health insurance program operated by the Social Security Administration for persons 65 years of age and older, disabled people, and people with permanent kidney failure.

Medicare is divided into 2 Parts:
- Part A (Hospital Insurance) - Helps pay for care in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation or dialysis, and for home health and hospice care.
- Part B (Medical Insurance) Helps pays doctor bills, certain outpatient hospital care, X-rays and laboratory tests, physical and occupational therapy, durable medical equipment and other medical items and services.
